Driving
This was the first time we had driven so here are a few notes for future reference.
Outward Journey
Thursday Evening
Packed Sharan. Back seats out. Three sledges in. plus 4 cases and boxes. Could just see out of back.
Set off at 1615 , Dover 1815, 1900 Boat.
Arrived at Ibis Hotel at Saint-Omer Centre at 2200 French time.
Friday
Saint-Omer to Annercy. Michelin route guide said 491miles.
Left 0850. Small deviation on way out of S Omer.
Stopped 11.15 at Reimes-Champagne (shop & coffee machines only)
Stopped just north of Dijon. Good restaurent.
Good speed until N508, la Balme-de-Sillingy, 15 minute delay through village
Traffic into & through Annecy dreadful
Arrived Hotel Les Tresoms 18.15. Good views but as it was Feb 14th; no dinner! Red Rose at McDonald's!
Saturday
Left just before 08.00. only minor queue at mountain traffic lights. Arrived Courchevel just before 10.00. No chains required!
Return Jouney
Saturday
Left 0655. 2hrs 55 mins to motorway, no delays. A40 traffic heavy. Stopped at about 11.00 at Dijon Spoy. Stopped again at 1430. at Uvilliers A26 before St Quentin. Calais 1630. Boat 1700. Arrived Dover 1830 English time. Home 20.15 after short diversion towards Gravesend!.
708 miles, about 11.25 hrs driving, 14.25 elapsed.
Driving easier than expected but last two hours were on autopilot.
