Exodus Haute Route Trek July 2003

Day 5 Le Peuty to Champex

Off early, had a hard climb up the side of the Trient Glacier to the Fenetre de Arpette. Nearly got blown up by two path repairers setting off explosives! Fantastic views. Crowded on top.

Had lunch on a grassy area below the col. Very warm. Boots beginning to hurt my left ankle. Walked down a pleasant valley to a very civilised campsite at Champex. Very welcome shower.

Walked down to the town to admire the lakeside and watch the sunset on the Grand Combin.

Exodus Trip Notes

Day 5 In good weather we take the trail adjacent to the Trient Glacier to
cross the pass known as the Fenêtre de Arpette (2,666 m.) before descending into the Arpette Valley (1,627 m.) and down to our campsite in Champex (1,466 m.).

In poor weather we would take the lower trail, which climbs first to the Col de Forclaz (1,526 m.) from where we can
look down into the Rhone valley. The Swiss town of Martigny is in sight far below, as we follow the ‘Bovine route’. Campsite in Champex.
