Day 8 Cabane St Laurent
to Cabane Prafleuri
Was able to admire the dawn as I went to the loo
early in the morning! Up the col to the Lac du Grande Dessert.
Superb still blueness in the brilliantly sunny morning. Past the
snout of the glacier with superb views down the valley and from
the Col Prafleuri. Down to a very cold lake for lunch and a swim.
The main excitement was a glimpse of Adrian's legs which never
been seen before. Because we had deviated from the path to visit
the lake we had to build a bridge across a swiftly flowing river
to avoid a long detour. The hut was newly built of pine situated
in a huge quarry used to build the barrage for Lac Dix. Excellent
dinner and lots of noisy games afterwards. Two Chamois came to
the salt lick outside as it grew dark. Tried to convince Magnus
to go across the Glacier de Cheilon next day without success. |
Exodus Trip Notes
Day 8 We make an initial ascent to the Lac du
Grand Desert (2,642 m.) and the Col Prafleuri (2,965 m.) - the
highest col on the route. It is then only a short descent to the
Cabane Prafleuri (2,624 m.). Again the support vehicle will be
unable to reach us so we will be doing light backpacking to this
remote mountain hut.
